Drug Rehab Kansas

Choosing a drug rehab program in Kansas for a drug addiction can often be complicated process, with so many available options. The National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA) has reported that the most successful type of substance abuse treatment for drug addiction is an inpatient residential drug rehab program that requires at least a three month stay at the facility. There are other types of treatment options for drug addiction such as short term, and outpatient drug rehab. Very few individuals that are coming out of the chaos of drug addiction can benefit from a drug rehab program in which they are returning home every night to the environment where they may have previously abused drugs. In choosing a Kansas drug rehab center, the most important question that should be asked is about the long term success rate in treating drug addiction, as the best predictor of future success is past success. Once you have located a Kansas drug rehab with a proven track record for treating your drug addiction, you can work in unison with the facility to put into place a treatment plan for your own unique situation. The cost of the drug rehab program will also play a part in your final decision, but this should never be the determining factor in choosing a treatment facility for your drug addiction. An individual that is actively engaged in a drug addiction rarely takes the time to add up what they are spending, yet they will sometimes scrutinize every aspect of the cost of a drug rehab facility.

The cost of maintaining a drug addiction should not only be measured monetarily, but by the negative effects that occur as a direct result of the substance abuse problem. Drug addiction takes a toll on every single area of an individual's life, and has a negative impact on almost all of their relationships. Aside from the damage to personal relationships, a person who is struggling with a drug addiction suffers from damage to their self esteem. When an individual is actively engaged in a drug addiction, they will experience feelings of worthlessness, hopelessness, shame and guilt, because deep down they know what they are doing is wrong. Because the individual cannot stop without the help of a drug rehab program, they will continue in their drug addiction; this creates a major contradiction between their personal values and their current actions, causing them to feel worse about themselves. The hallmark of any drug addiction is that an individual will put the craving for drugs above everything else in their lives, nothing else is held as sacred. They will actively pursue their drug addiction until they receive the professional drug rehabilitation that is necessary to allow them to experience the serenity of sobriety.

The basic components of most Kansas drug rehab centers are similar, because treating a drug addiction requires certain aspects of addiction to be addressed regardless of the level or length of the treatment process. The first component of a quality Kansas drug rehab facility is the detoxification process. The purpose of the drug detox is to safely manage and minimize drug withdrawal symptoms that can occur when quitting drug use. An individual cannot be fully present in any type of drug treatment unless they are no longer experiencing physical discomfort from their drug addiction. Most drug rehab programs will then proceed with various forms of counseling to help the individual to get to the root of the substance abuse problem, and to delve into the reasons that they chose to use drugs in the first place.

Kansas Drug Information and Drug Trafficking

In Kansas, methamphetamine, both imported and domestically produced, is the principal drug of concern. Cocaine, particularly crack cocaine, is also readily available throughout the state, primarily in major urban areas such as Kansas City, Topeka, and Wichita. In addition, Kansas is a transshipment point for drugs being transported to the eastern United States via Interstates 35 and 70 from the southwest border and West Coast cities.

Cocaine is readily available throughout Kansas. The cocaine is transported from the West Coast by motor vehicles and mail services. Trafficking organizations, often with direct familial ties to Mexico, bring most of the cocaine into the state where much of it is converted into crack cocaine for retail distribution. A high level of violent crime is also associated with the drug. Kansas drug information shows that many different ethnic groups are involved in the retail level drug distribution. The proceeds from the sales are often transported back to Mexico in the same vehicles used to bring the drugs into the state.

Small quantities of low-purity Mexican heroin are sporadically available in personal use quantities in the urban areas of Kansas. Most of the heroin seizures are of the black-tar type.

Methamphetamine is the primary drug of concern in Kansas. Most of the methamphetamine in the state is smuggled in by Hispanic organizations via motor vehicles, commercial airlines, and mail delivery services. Large Mexican communities in Kansas provide an infrastructure to import and distribute the methamphetamine. Between 1994 and 1999, drug treatment admissions for meth in Kansas increased while admissions for heroin, cocaine, marijuana, and alcohol decreased.

Locally, small toxic laboratories continue to be a significant problem throughout Kansas. Laboratories in the Kansas City metropolitan area now predominantly use the Birch method of production, as has been common in other parts of Kansas. Most of the meth laboratories in Kansas produce only ounce quantities at a time. Law enforcement man-hours and financial resources are being severely impacted by the number of laboratories and dumpsites.

Kansas has its share of club and predatory drugs such as MDMA (ecstasy) and GHB. MDMA is found at rave parties in all parts of Kansas. Law enforcement in western Kansas reports that MDMA is brought into the area from Denver, Colorado and Asian trafficking organizations have reportedly been distributing the drug. GHB is also a drug of concern throughout the state.

Marijuana is readily available throughout Kansas. It is imported from Mexico through cities on the southwest border and transported in large shipments by the interstate highways through Dallas and Oklahoma City on to Kansas City. From Kansas City, the marijuana is further distributed to other cities in Kansas and other states. Imported marijuana from Mexico dominates the market, however indoor and hydroponically grown marijuana is a growing concern in the Kansas City area. The high purity has made it popular among users.

Kansas drug information sources report that PCP is available primarily in the Kansas City metropolitan area. The PCP is delivered via parcel services from traffickers based in California. Kansas treatment centers are reporting that many of their new clients are seeking treatment for OxyContin addiction. Lawrence, Kansas reports that OxyContin is the most abused pharmaceutical drug in the area and is available for $40 a tablet.
